UK Dancing News.

The UK dance scene in March 2026 is buzzing with national initiatives and major performances. From a nationwide movement to get everyone moving to high-profile ballet premieres, here is the latest news:

Major National Events:

• National Day of Dance (8 March 2026): Spearheaded by Angela Rippon CBE, the Let’s Dance! campaign reaches its peak on 8 March. The initiative aims to get the nation dancing for mental and physical health.
• English National Ballet Collaboration: The ENB has partnered with Dame Arlene Phillips to create choreography for the National Day of Dance, including seated and standing adaptations for their Dance for Parkinson’s programme.
• MOVE IT 2026: One of the world’s biggest dance festivals is expected this March, featuring headliners like Brian Friedman
  and offering workshops across all styles.

Performance Highlights:

• Royal Ballet & Opera: Key performances at the Royal Opera House include Giselle and Mayerling.
• Sadler’s Wells Spring Programme: – Mary, Queen of Scots: A major production running in London. – Body & Soul: Performed by the English National Ballet. – Turn it Out: Featuring Tiler Peck & Friends.
• Dance for Ukraine 21/03. (21 March 2026): A fundraiser gala at the Royal Academy of Dance, welcomed by Dame Darcey Bussell and featuring stars from the Royal Ballet.

• Eliot Smith Dance: The POPPY Spring tour visits Tunbridge Wells on 7 March.
• Shobana Jeyasingh Dance: Touring We Caliban throughout March.

• Dancing with the Stars Weekends: Donaheys is hosting immersive experiences featuring pro dancers Michelle Tsiakkas
  and Simone Arena at Alton Towers (6–8 March) and De Vere Beaumont Estate (27–29 March).
• Pineapple Dance Studios: Offering over 20 workshop pop-ups this month, including exclusive The Next Step choreography sessions with Alexandra Chaves on 1 March.
• Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour: The 2026 arena tour is underway, featuring stars like Lewis Cope.

The full cast for the upcoming London premiere staged concert of Joey Contreras’ musical
In Pieces at The Other Palace has been revealed.
Described as a love story about the people you don’t end up with, In Pieces follows the romantic journeys of six characters across three chapters of their lives. The staged concert is scheduled to run on 30 & 31 March 2026.

The production, directed by Martha Geelan, features the following cast:

I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical moves premiere plans due to Peacock Theatre repairs.

I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical has relocated its world premiere to the Hackney Empire after “essential building works” forced the immediate closure of the Peacock Theatre

Here are the updated plans and schedule:

• New Premiere Venue: The production will now open at the Hackney Empire for a limited engagement.
• Revised London Dates: Performances at the new venue will run from 20–25 March 2026.
• Booking Information: General booking for the Hackney run opens on 5 March 2026, with priority access for those who previously held tickets for the Peacock Theatre run.
• Refunds/Rebooking: Sadler’s Wells is contacting affected ticket holders from the cancelled Peacock run (originally scheduled for 5–28 March) regarding refunds and rebooking options.
• Touring Schedule: The musical will proceed with its regional tour as planned, visiting the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry (1–4 April) and the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne (7–11 April).
• Future Peacock Run: The production is currently expected to return to the Peacock Theatre in August 2026 once repairs are complete..

General News & Sighting

• Ashley Wallen won the Emmy award for Outstanding Choreography last night for his work on Disney’s “Descendants: The Rise of Red”.
• The Peacock theatre in London will close temporarily for essential building works, with all performances suspended during the period of repairs. The venue’s scheduled run of “I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical” will no longer take place at the theatre. The production has now been relocated to the Hackney Empire where it will have a limited engagement from the 20th to the 25th of March.
• Joanne Clifton and Ore Oduba announced the “Champions Reunited ” tour to mark 10 years since the pair won Strictly. The tour will open in Bournemouth on the 17th of August.
• Dianne Buswell and Joe Sugg have welcomed their baby boy.
• Choreographer Wayne McGregor received an Olivier Award for his contribution to dance. Miss Betty Laine OBE was given an Industry Recognition Award.
• Dollie Henry’s BOP have a performance on the 13th of March at Morley College in London from 7.00 pm. You can book your tickets via the Eventbrite link in the BOP Instagram bio.
• Chichester Festival theatre has announced a new production of “My Fair Lady”. It will run at the Festival theatre from the 6th of July until the 5th of September. The choreography is by Stephen Mear.
• Ryan Tomash has been promoted to principle dancer at the New York City Ballet.

Future Dance Events News

• The English National Ballet has announced its season for 2026/7 titled “A Season To Feel More”.
• “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie” will return to the UK on a 10th anniversary tour. The show will open in Leeds on the 15th of January 2027. It has choreography by Kate Prince.
• A musical stage adaptation of the film “Coyote Ugly” will come to the West End in 2027. It will be directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.
• “Just For One Day; The Live Aid Musical” is to embark on a UK tour in 2027. The show has choreography by Ebony Molina.
• “Heathers the Musical” will return to the UK from Summer 2026 for a new tour. The show will have choreography by Gary Lloyd.
• A new production of “Fame” will run from the 28th of July until the 15th of August 2026 at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. It will have choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves.
• “Dirty Dancing” will be touring the UK from the summer of 2026. The show will have choreography by Austin Wilkes and open in Milton Keynes on the 27th of August 2026.
• A new revival of “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” has been confirmed for this year as part of the new season from the Birmingham Rep.
• A musical version of “10 Things I Hate About You” is officially in the works. It will have choreography by Christopher Wheeldon

Diversity opens new studio in Birmingham.

Diversity, known as the UK’s most successful dance group, will open the doors to a new dance studio in Birmingham city centre.

Expanding beyond their original base in Essex, this new location aims to connect with local dance communities and support the next generation of talent.

It is set to offer word-class facilities with a space open to everyone.

Diversity’s Ashley Banjo said: “What I love about Diversity is that we’ve never held an audition. It’s always been about the community and everyone who comes to learn and train with us.

The new bespoke venue is based on Icknield Street in the city’s Jewellery Quarter, which will mark Diversity studio’s second location. They also have a studio in Southend, Essex.

There will be in-person dance classes from beginners aged four up to adult professionals.

A range of styles will be taught including street dance, commercial and contemporary, with weekly lessons taught by core Diversity members themselves.

Students in the Diversity community are also offered creative performance opportunities through yearly productions, and early access to special masterclasses.

Peaky Blinders Dance Show to Tour China in 2026.

   

The hit dance show Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby is heading to China in spring 2026, as world-famous dance company Rambert celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Produced by ROYO and its international arm RTS Entertainment, the show will mark Rambert’s return to China – and the latest in a string of British stage hits to reach Asian audiences, following Life of Pi and Murder on the Orient Express.
Peaky Blinders, but make it dance

Inspired by the smash hit TV series, Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby is a spectacular dramatisation told through breath-taking dance, written by the show’s creator Steven Knight and choreographed and directed by Benoit Swan Pouffer,.

Accompanied by a live on-stage band performing specially commissioned music by Roman GianArthur, the production also features iconic Peaky tracks from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Radiohead, Anna Calvi, The Last Shadow Puppets, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

This high-energy dance/theatre event digs deeper into the story of Thomas Shelby and the Peaky Blinders crew, taking you into the criminal underbelly of British society as Tommy, Arthur, Polly and the rest of the Shelby family gang are brought vividly to life on stage.

Rambert CEO Helen Shute said touring internationally is “part of Rambert’s DNA,” adding that the company is “honoured to return in our centenary year and meet audiences in China again.”

ROYO Group CEO Tom De Keyser, currently in Shanghai for Murder on the Orient Express, said the company is committed to expanding in Asia.

Amber Davies to Lead UK & Ireland Tour of Legally Blonde The Musical as Elle Woods.

Amber Davies is set to dazzle audiences across the UK and Ireland as she takes on the iconic role of Elle Woods in the upcoming 2026 tour of Legally Blonde The Musical. The production, co-produced by ROYO and Curve, will launch on 7 February 2026 at Leicester’s Curve Theatre and run until 7 January 2027, visiting major cities including Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, and Dublin.

Best known for winning Love Island in 2017, Davies has since carved out a successful career in musical theatre. Her stage credits include Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby, and Lorraine Baines in Back to the Future The Musical. Her casting as Elle Woods marks another milestone in her transition from reality TV star to respected West End performer.
Legally Blonde The Musical, based on the beloved 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon, follows Elle Woods’ journey from fashion-obsessed sorority queen to Harvard Law School standout. The show is celebrated for its empowering message, catchy songs, and high-energy choreography.

Davies expressed her excitement about the role, calling Elle Woods “a dream character” and promising to bring “heart, humour, and plenty of pink” to the stage. The tour’s creative team has hinted at a fresh, vibrant take on the production, with updated choreography and bold visuals designed to captivate a new generation of theatre-goers.

• “Mean Girls The Musical” has revealed the lead casting for its upcoming UK tour. It will star Emily Lane, Vivian Parika, Sophie Pourret and Georgie Buckland and have choreography by Casey Nicholau. The tour will open in Manchester on the 23rd of February 2026.

GB pair win first world figure skating medal since

Torvill and Dean.

Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson won Great Britain’s first figure skating World Championship medal in more than 40 years with ice dance bronze in Boston.

Not since 1984, when Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won their fourth and final global title, have British skaters stood on a world podium in any discipline.

But Fear, 25, and Gibson, 30, finally ended that wait on Saturday with a total score of 207.11 points, having finished fourth at the previous two World Championships.

American favourites Madison Chock and Evan Bates defended their title while Canada’s Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier took silver.

“I can’t even describe my feelings, I’m still shaking,” said Fear. “I’m in disbelief.”

Gibson added: “It’s a dream come true.”

Olympians Fear and Gibson are three-time European medallists and earlier this season claimed Britain’s first ever medal at the Grand Prix final.

In Boston, they had placed third after Friday’s rhythm dance but while their free dance routine – soundtracked by a trio of Beyonce hits – was judged the sixth best on Saturday, their combined score was enough to land them the greatest success of their careers to date.

The World Championships is a qualifying event for next year’s Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina.

Elsewhere, US skater Ilia Malinin won a second straight men’s figure skating world title with a routine which included a record-equalling six quadruple jumps.

The 20-year-old also carried off a once-banned backflip as part of his routine.

He and fourth-place finisher Adam Siao Him Fa of France became the first skaters in nearly 50 years to legally land the move at a world championships.

Strictly Come Dancing suffers major blow for first time in 20 years.

     

Strictly Come Dancing has been dealt a significant blow as it failed to secure a major award nomination for the first time in 20 years.

The popular dance programme first aired on May 15, 2004, with Tess Daly and Sir Bruce Forsyth at the helm, and Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Phillips, and Bruno Tonioli forming the original judging panel.

it’s now been revealed that Strictly has not been nominated for a Bafta TV award in the entertainment programme category for the first time since 2005, despite winning the award in 2016, 2017, 2020 and most recently in 2024.

The Bafta Television Craft Awards, presented by Stacey Dooley, are set for Sunday, April 27. The Bafta Television Awards with P&O Cruises, hosted by Alan Cumming, will follow on May 11

BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse says ‘this is a dream come true’ in major announcement.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star excited fans back in September when she confirmed her next project which will take her away from TV screens and back to her roots.

The dancer and TV star teased she had a big announcement on the way before revealing all as she took to Instagram with a video showing just her legs while wearing a pair of golden dancer’s heels. She could be seen pivoting several times and struck a pose before walking back out of frame.

The Dancing on Ice judge then revealed she would be heading out on a new UK tour, Oti Mabuse: Viva Carnival, in 2025. She is set to celebrate the world’s most electrifying carnivals, from the Sambas of Brazilian Carnival to the Tangos of Argentina’s Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia, the dance scene at England’s own Glastonbury Festival and the swing of the Jazz Fest in New Orleans.

The tour will be kicking off in Sheffield in June and will also see Oti perform at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on June 15, 2025. In a statement at the time, Oti said: “I’m so excited to bring Viva Carnival to the stage!

“Performing on stage is something I feel so passionately about and have missed so much. Dance has the power to bring people together and I can’t wait to party with everyone.”

Oti has now announced that she’ll be performing alongside special guest star Flavia Cacace. The Queen of the Argentine Tango joins the Queen of the Samba as Strictly legend Flavia joins forces with Oti in what is being described as “a powerhouse performance”.

ITV say Dancing on Ice won’t be back on our screens.

ITV has said they have no plans to make another series of the skating competition, ‘Dancing on Ice’.

The show has been on our screens since 2006, but it has not had as many people watching it in recent years.

An ITV spokesperson said: “Following another successful series earlier this year, Dancing On Ice will be rested in 2026 with no current plans for another series.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006, and over the previous 17 series, for all of their hard work both on and off the ice.”

Presenter Holly Willoughby thanked the “cast, crew, celebrities and everyone who has been part of the Dancing on Ice family” over the years.

She also paid tribute to Olympic legends and judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who have also been a part of the show since it began 19 years ago.

“It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside true national treasures… and to have a front-row seat to their breath-taking skating. Watching them glide across the ice was nothing less than pure magic”, she added.

Coronation Street actor Sam Aston and his skating partner Molly Lanaghan were the latest pair to be crowned champions.

Other winners of the series have included former Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson and Waterloo Road actor Ryan Thomas.

There were big winners on the night including the ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, which won best new musical, a revival of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ produced by Regents Park Open Air Theatre, and ‘Giant’, which focuses on Roald Dahl’s notorious antisemitism.

Our Pro Dancer News reflects on the major dance events of the last few weeks.

Sadler’s Wells announces a new annual Youth Festival showcasing the best dance being created with young people.

In July 2025, Sadler’s Wells will present the first edition YFX Youth Festival, a new annual festival which celebrates and showcases the exceptional range of youth work across the United Kingdom.

For its inaugural edition, Sadler’s Wells is partnering to present work from the National Youth Dance Companies of England, Scotland and Wales, new choreographic creations from young people and showcases featuring youth groups from around the country. In addition, the Festival will host a series of workshops for young dancers, as well as talks and symposiums all centred on dance for children and young people.

The Festival takes place across Sadler’s Wells Theatre and the Lilian Baylis Studio in Angel and at Sadler’s Wells East, the brand-new state-of-the-art theatre that opens in Stratford next year.

Sheridan Smith, Samantha Barks and more to perform giant musical concert in Manchester.

    

A giant musical celebration is heading to Manchester next month.

Taking place at the Co-op Arena on 20 December, the event will blend the worlds of musicals and festive celebration.

Set to appear will be multi-award-winner Sheridan Smith performing songs from The Greatest Showman, Cilla and more, as well as Samantha Barks, along with a lineup of surprise guests. All will be accompanied by Manchester Camerata – a Manchester-based chamber orchestra.

Casting has been announced for the Schmigadoon! stage musical.

Schmigadoon!, a new stage musical inspired by the Apple TV+ series, will have its world premiere next January in Washington – and casting has now been revealed.

The show will play from 31 January to 9 February at the Kennedy Center.

Presented as part of the Broadway Center Stage series, Schmigadoon! will have a book and score by Cinco Paul, co-creator of the much-loved series, and direction and choreography by Christopher Gattelli.

Songs will include hits from the television show, including the Emmy-winning “Corn Puddin’,” as well as new material.

Inspired by Paul’s AppleTV+ series, Schmigadoon! will star Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice) and Sara Chase (The Great Gatsby) as Josh and Melissa, a couple who get trapped in a magical town that’s a Golden Age Broadway musical come to life.

They’re joined by Kevin Del Aguila as Reverend Layton, Ann Harada reprising her role from the series as Florence Menlove, McKenzie Kurtz as Betsy, Isabelle McCalla as Emma, Javier Muńoz as Doc Lopez, Brad Oscar as Mayor Menlove, Emily Skinner as Mildred, and Ryan Vasquez as Danny.

The series, with a star-studded cast led by Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, as well as Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Dove Cameron, Aaron Tveit, and many others, ran for two seasons.

The Phantom of the Opera announces global search for next Christine.

Here’s how you can apply!

A global virtual open call has been announced for the role of Christine Daaé in the London production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Producers are searching for performers aged 18 to mid-20s, with a lyric soprano voice. The vocal range required spans from G below middle C to high E.

To audition, candidates are asked to submit a video of themselves singing a cut of “Think of Me” from the musical, using a sheet music and track provided on the show website (you can also consult taping instructions on the site). Videos should be recorded from the waist up, against a plain background with minimal background noise. No additional material is required. Submissions must be sent via a non-expiring link through the official form, ensuring that the video can be downloaded and viewed without permission requests.

All tapes must be submitted by 13 December 2024, with successful applicants contacted by 31 December. Only tapes for the role of Christine will be reviewed, and any queries should be directed to phantomcasting@camack.co.uk (please note, the show has said that audition tapes will not be accepted via email). Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The music for the production is composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Charles Hart and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe. The book for the musical is written by Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber, and it is based on the novel Le Fantôme de l’Opera by Gaston Leroux. The orchestrations for the music are by David Cullen and Lloyd Webber, while the musical supervision is handled by Simon Lee.

The production design for the show is created by Maria Björnson, with set design adapted by Matt Kinley and associate costume design by Jill Parker. Lighting for the show is designed by Andrew Bridge with associate lighting design by Warren Letton, and the sound design is by Mick Potter. The musical staging and choreography for the show was handled by Gillian Lynne, recreated and adapted by Chrissie Cartwright.

Giovanni Pernice says he’s given ‘strength he needs’ after brief UK return to reunite with Strictly Come Dancing stars.

    

Giovanni Pernice has said he is ‘given the strength he needs’ from the support of his fans as he made a quick trip back to the UK where he reunited with a couple of Strictly Come Dancing stars.

The 34-year-old spent several years as a professional dancer on the hit BBC One dance contest. However, earlier this year, an investigation was launched by the BBC following allegations made about the dancer by former Strictly participant Amanda Abbington, with the results being made public.

Subsequently, Giovanni wasn’t named in Strictly’s professional line-up for 2024 and has since revealed he’s joining the Italian “equivalent of Dancing With The Stars”, Ballando con le Stelle, following his departure from the UK’s popular dance contest.

Giovanni and his dance partner, actress Bianca Guaccero, wowed during their debut and ‘won’ the first show of the series after being awarded a whopping 37 out of a possible 40 points.

Following his return to the dancefloor, Giovanni was seen leaving Rome and heading back to the UK where he was reunited with Strictly judges Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood who joined him at his latest dance classes put on by his company Ballando, which sees him hosting dance classes for anyone from beginners to the more experienced.

BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood says ‘there is a difference’ after scandal report.

Craig Revel Horwood has told how things have changed since the release of the BBC’s report into the Strictly Come Dancing scandal which saw the hit dance show rocked by misconduct claims.

Amanda Abbington and other stars complained about Giovanni Pernice’s teaching methods. This week, the BBC said that it has taken the claims “very seriously” and that it had “upheld some, but not all” of Amanda’s complaints and issued her an apology.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: “We have assessed the complaints and we have upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made. We want to apologise to Amanda Abbington and to thank her for coming forward and taking part. We know this would not have been an easy thing to do.”

Craig has now been asked about the release of the BBC’s report during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine on Friday (October 4) ahead of the BBC One dance contest’s return to screens on Saturday night (October 5).

The show judge admitted there was a different feeling among the Strictly camp since the results were report published. Asked by host Christine Lampard if the feeling behind the scenes has changes, he said: “Yes, there is a difference.

“It’s like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders because it was always hanging in the air so I was just so pleased that this investigation is over because now we can move on and really celebrate our 20 years on the screen.

Craig added: “Because it is a wonderful, wonderful show and it’s just awful when something like this comes along. And of course, the BBC have put loads of things in place you know like chaperones which we’ve had in the theatre for years actually. I think it’s a really good thing.

“It [the investigation] brought to light a really good thing that there should be someone in there (the rehearsal rooms) taking note. I think that’s great. So let’s move forward, let’s move on, let’s celebrate Strictly for all the good it has done in the last 20 years.”

And looking back at the last twenty years, Craig told Christine how he first thought the programme “wouldn’t have legs”. He shared: “When we first started back in May of 2004, I thought it wouldn’t have legs at all and thought, ‘who is going to be interested in seeing a bunch of celebrities that can’t dance, try and dance in two weeks? No one!’ But actually I was completely wrong.”

Natasha Kaplinsky announced as Chair of The Royal Ballet School.

The Royal Ballet School has appointed Natasha Kaplinsky OBE as its new Chair, effective from 1 October 2024. Kaplinsky is the third high-level appointment in a year in which The Royal Ballet School has seen the departures of its Artistic Director & CEO, and Chairman. Previous Chairman Christopher Rodrigues CBE stepped down earlier this year.

The broadcaster and journalist Natasha Kaplinsky OBE will take up the post of Chair of The Royal Ballet School on 1 October 2024.

Kaplinsky will replace Anna Birkett, who has held the position of Interim Chairman since January of this year. Previously the position was held by Christopher Rodrigues CBE.

• Lead casting has been announced for the UK premiere of “Muriel’s Wedding The Musical”. It will star Megan Ellis and Annabel Marlow. The choreography is by Andrew Hallsworth. The show will run from the 10th of April until the 10th of May 2025 at the Curve theatre in Leicester.

Red Bull to host world’s biggest street dance battle in Manchester 0n July 27th.

Winner from the UK Final in Manchester will head to the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Mumbai, India in November
The final for the world’s biggest street dance is taking place in Manchester next month. Freight Island will be the stage for the dance competition ran by energy drink giant and events company Red Bull on Saturday, July 27.

An international mixed-style competition, ‘Red Bull Dance Your Style’ has been running since 2019 and celebrates a variety of talent across the UK. The unique competition looks to unify dancers and spectators alike, through 16 rounds of freestyle dance which showcase any style from Hip Hop to House, Afro Dance, Locking, Voguing, Krumping and more.

Road to the UK Final, Red Bull Dance Your Style has visited cities across the UK for a nationwide open audition, including Swindon, Edinburgh, and Manchester. All successful qualifiers from these auditions will attend the final UK showdown on July 27 at Freight Island in Manchester. The UK Final is set to be an ‘electric crescendo’ that sees finalists battle it out for their chance to compete at the world final in Mumbai, India, in November.

The all-gender competition consists of 16 rounds where dancers battle one-on-one at each round, and the audience are in charge to crown the next UK winner through live voting.

Wicked movie moves up release date to avoid Moana 2 clash.

The cinema release date for the first half of the Wicked film series has been moved up by five days, now coming by bubble into cinemas on November 22 instead of November 27.

November 27 was also the set release date for Disney’s Moana 2; the two films will no longer go head to head in their frist weekend. Now, Wicked will go up against Gladiator II.

The Wicked films star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Tony nominee Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, and Peter Dinklage as Dr Dillamond. Jon M Chu directs the two-part property. Part Two is still slated for November 26, 2025.

It is based on the hit novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, Wicked tells the story of two unlikely university friends in the land of Oz, one destined to become Glinda The Good and the other, the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked writers Winnie Holzman (book) and Stephen Schwartz (score) are collaborating on the screenplay.

Blackpool’s dance heritage celebrated at festival.

The woman behind a month-long festival of dance in Blackpool has hailed the resort’s “unrivalled heritage” for the art.

The Capital of Dance pilot event features dozens of live shows, classes and street dancing with everything from drag queen workshops to ballet taster classes.

BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing stars Karen Hauer and Gorka Marquez will also be hosting workshops.

Marina Blore, the artistic director of the festival, said she intends build on its success and return in 2025 with the dance and movement version of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Ms Blore said the resort boasts two iconic ballrooms – the Empress ballroom at the Winter Gardens and Blackpool Tower’s ballroom, which between them have staged some of the world’s biggest dance events with the latter hosting Strictly Come Dancing shows.

She said Blackpool’s dance history “goes back to the Victorian dance trains that used to bring hundreds of people to dance on Central Pier through to the big band era”, adding there was also “the heyday of variety, disco, Northern soul, super clubs and now, of course, Strictly”.

“Where else could you possibly launch a festival like this?”

The festival runs until 14 July.

Posthumous LGBT Award for Strictly Dancer.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor has been honoured at the British LGBT Awards with a special posthumous award.
Actor Lisa Riley, his dance partner for the 2012 series, accepted the award alongside the late dancer’s family.
Windsor, who appeared on the BBC One show between 2010 and 2013, died in February aged 44.

His aunt Alison gave a speech thanking his fans for their “endless messages and tributes.”
She said: “[The tributes] have been a great comfort to myself and all the family on days when we needed it most.”
“He was out and living his best life, a proud gay man who wanted to be seen at his real self.
“When we look at this beautiful award, we’ll smile back and feel him closer.”

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Riley told the BBC the honour was “incredibly important” and that she hoped to use the event to raise more awareness of mental health.
Windsor was an advocate for mental health and worked closely with the charity Sane.

Riley said: “Mental health in the gay community is really bad, and if I can help in any way… then I’ve done my bit.
“I wish he was here, he should be on my arm covered in sparkles and having a ball, but the energy he had is imprinted on my heart.
“He would be shining down and laughing at us. His vibrancy, energy and zest for life was out there for everyone to see.
“He wasn’t a hidden gay man, he was a proud, proud gay man.”

Windor’s sister Hayley also attended the event.
She said: “Events like these are hugely significant to the community and he’d have been over the moon.”

The British LGBT Awards, now in its 10th year, was created to celebrate and promote the work of the LGBT community.
The host of this year’s gala, Julian Clary, said the awards were a “loud, proud and inspiring” way of celebrating LGBT people’s contributions to society.

Giovanni Pernice in huge career move as Strictly scandal could see him ‘leave UK’.

Giovanni Pernice could be getting set for a fresh start in his native Italy according to reports. The former Strictly Come Dancing pro, who has been axed from next year’s lineup, is reportedly in talks to appear on Dancing With the Stars Italy, which is called Ballando con le Stelle.

“Giovanni is in advanced talks to join the Italian version of Strictly, Dancing with the Stars. Bosses are really keen to sign him as a judge given his fame and status in the UK but are also open to the dancer performing as a professional, if he still wants to compete.

“It’s a great move for Giovanni, who has weighed up the possibility of doing shows like I’m A Celeb, but dance will always be his passion. All he wants is a fresh start and to join Dancing with the Stars in Italy will certainly give him the new chapter he’s been hoping for,” a source told Media.

His live show commitments end on July 21, which frees him up to film Dancing With the Stars when it begins shooting in August should he sign up for it.

The 33-year-old professional dancer has been embroiled in controversy for months after his most recent appearance on the BBC dance show due to allegations about his behaviour, which he has denied.

He was partnered with actress Amanda Abbington, who left the show prematurely and later claimed she suffered from PTSD.

The BBC reportedly initiated an internal investigation after receiving complaints from several other stars who had worked with him on the show.

• Sir Matt Bourne’s New Adventures Dance Company announced the full cast of 40 and the tour dates for the 30th Anniversary tour of his iconic production of “Swan Lake”. It will star Ashley Shaw as the Queen and opens in Plymouth on the 11th of November.
• “The Rocky Horror Show” announced the cast for its 50th Anniversary tour. Stacey Monahan is the Dance Captain.
• “Cake” is to return to London at The Other Palace in September. It will again star Zizi Strallen and Renee Lamb and have choreography by Drew McOnie and Christopher Tendai.
• “MJ The Musical” has extended its West End run into 2025. The show stars Myles Frost and has choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.
• A new staging of the Broadway musical “The Wild Party” at the Earth theatre in Hackney has been cancelled.

• The Curve Theatre in Leicester has announced the UK premiere of “Muriel’s Wedding The Musical”. The show will be choreographed by Andrew Hallsworth and will run from the 10th of April until the 10th of May 2025.
• The world premiere of “Wild Rose” will run from the 6th of March until the 5th of April at the Lyceum theatre in Scotland. It has choreography by Steven Hoggett.
• “Calamity Jane” will tour the UK and Ireland before a West End run in 2025. It has choreography by Nick Winston.
• The Leeds Playhouse will host the world premiere of “Coraline – A Musical” from the 11th of April to the 11th of May 2025 before the show embarks on a UK tour. The choreography is by EJ Boyle.
• The hit Broadway musical “Something Rotten” is coming to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on the 5th & 6th of August, starring Jason Manford.
• The Edinburgh Fringe will host the world premiere of “I Wish You Well” – a musical parody based on Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski crash and ensuing legal battle. It will star Diana Vickers and have choreography by Dame Arlene Phillips and Tino Sibanda.
• “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is set to embark on a world tour in 2025. The new production will launch in the UK while its West End staging will continue its run at the Piccadilly theatre.
• The current touring production of “The Wizard of Oz” will return to the West End on the 15th of August at the Gillian Lynne theatre. The cast will be led by Aston Merrygold.
• The musical “Lizzie” will return to the Hope Mill theatre in Manchester from the 17th of October until the 11th of November. It is directed and choreographed by William Whelton with associate choreography by Yandass Ndlovu.
• “Mary Poppins” announced a new UK tour. It will star Stefanie Jones and Jack Chambers and have choreography by Sir Matt Bourne and Stephen Mear. The show will open on the 4th of November at the Bristol Hippodrome.

Heathers the Musical announces tour dates.

Heathers the Musical will return for a new tour – and dates have now been confirmed.

The Award-winning musical features a book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, and is based on the 1989 cult film of the same name, starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

The production is directed by Andy Fickman, with choreography by Gary Lloyd, designs by David Shields, lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound by Dan Samson. The assistant choreographer is Christopher Parkinson.

It previously ran at The Other Palace and in the West End in 2018 and 2021. The show then ran from 2021 to 2023 back at The Other Palace, with two tours also taking place.

It will open at Theatre Royal Windsor on 24 July 2024, before visiting Bath (from 30 July), Portsmouth (from 6 August), Cardiff (from 13 August), Newcastle (from 3 September), Milton Keynes (from 10 September), Chester (from 17 September), Sheffield (from 1 October), Stockton (from 15 October) and Torquay (from 5 November) with further dates to be revealed. Tickets go on sale from early March.

Full cast announced for Spirited Away at the London Coliseum.

Full casting has been announced for the stage version of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, which is heading to London this spring.

Presented by TOHO Co Ltd and co-produced by PW Productions in the original Japanese (with English captions), Spirited Away is based on the Oscar-winning animated film by Hayao Miyazaki. It is adapted for the stage by John Caird, co-adapted by Maoko Imai, and features the original score by Joe Hisaishi.

Returning from the original Japanese production are Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi as Chihiro, Kotaro Daigo and Hiroki Miura as Haku, Fu Hinami as Lin and Chihiro’s mother, Tomorowo Taguchi and Satoshi Hashimoto as Kamaji, Mari Natsuki and Romi Park as Yubaba and Zeniba, Kenya Osumi as Aniyaku and Chihiro’s father, Sunao Yoshimura as Chichiyaku, Obata no Oniisan as Aogaeru, Yuya Igarashi as Kashira and Mayu Musha as Bo.

Mari Natsuki returns to the role of Yubaba in this stage production, having voiced the role in Studio Ghibli’s 2001 Oscar-winning film.

Joining the company for the London production are Rina Kawaei and Momoko Fukuchi as Chihiro, Atsuki Mashiko as Haku, Hikaru Yamano as Kaonashi or ‘No-Face’, Yuki Hana and Rion Misaki as Lin and Chihiro’s mother, Tomu Miyazaki as Kamaji, Hitomi Harukaze as Yubaba and Zeniba, Toshihiko Ito as Chichiyaku and Seiya Motoki as Aogaeru.

Completing the company are Miyu Ayahashi, Kaito Arai, Yoko Ose, Wataru Oshige, Motoko Orii, Akino Konno, Ryo Sawamura, Mayu Suetomi, Rico Takahashi, Hayato Takehiro, Saya Chinen, Hanano Teshirogi, Ayame Nakagami, Yuuki Nishinomiya, Rei Hanashima, Yoshiki Fujioka, Norihide Mantani, Eiji Mizuno, Miffy, Maki Morita, Yuna Yasuno, Yamato, Kazuma Kimura, Annakanako Mohri, Marina Mori and Toshiki Hirose.

Spirited Away tells the story of Chihiro as she travels to a new home with her family and stumbles into a fantasy world of spirits ruled over by the sorceress Yubaba. When her parents are transformed into pigs, Chihiro must find a way to free them and escape back to the real world.

Musical supervision, orchestrations and arrangements are by Brad Haak, with associate music supervision, orchestrations and ableton programming by Conor Keelan. The creative team also includes set designer Jon Bausor, puppet designer Toby Olié, choreographer Shigehiro Ide, costume designer Sachiko Nakahara, lighting designer Jiro Katsushiba, sound designer Koichi Yamamoto, hair and make-up designer Hiroaki Miyauchi, projection designer Satoshi Kuriyama, stage manager Takashi Hojo, assistant to the director Maoko Imai, associate director Makoto Nagai, co-producer Iain Gillie and producer Haruka Ogi.

The production has recently added five additional weeks to its original 12-week season, and will begin on 30 April, with dates through to 24 August 2024.

Strictly’s Amy Dowden lands major ITV role as she eyes return to BBC show after cancer battle.

Amy Dowden is celebrating after landing a new TV hosting job, while remaining determined to make a return to Strictly Come Dancing.

Popular pro dancer Amy was met with an outpouring of support last year, when she revealed she battling breast cancer, before then being given the devastating blow that it had spread, as she vowed to fight it all the way and began extensive treatment. To Strictly fans’ delight, Amy made several appearances in the most recent series of the hit BBC show, being a guest announcer in one live show, before starring in a professional group number in the final, as social media went wild for her.

And it’s now ITV viewers who’ll be seeing more of Amy, as she has joined the presenting team on Lorraine. Speaking of her excitement over her new role, Amy said: “’m joining the Lorraine family! Thank you so much for this opportunity. What a difference just a couple of months makes.”

Amy also gave an update on her cancer battle, telling Lorraine that fears the disease had spread to her bones had been ruled out,. as she explained: “I’ll need to go back to the chemo ward once a month for an injection. It’s a brutal injection. I’ve got a hormone-fed cancer, so if that keeps my hormones at bay and stops feeding it, then it’s worthwhile.

“I’ve got another shot of life. I’m so grateful and happy and I wake up every day and say ‘thank you’ because not everyone gets to do it”
On the subject of returning to Strictly as a pro, Amy then added: “.I would love to return, to be back with my Strictly family. It’s what makes my dancing heart happy, so that’s the goal. Obviously we don’t know yet who’s back, but that is the dream.

Grammys 2024: Taylor Swift makes history.

 

Taylor Swift made history when she won best album for Midnights, becoming the first artist to win the prize for a fourth time, having previously won for Fearless, 1989 and Folklore.

The 34-year-old pop megastar overtook Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and Frank Sinatra, who had previously tied with her on three wins apiece.

Swift also delighted her legion of fans by revealing during the show that she would be releasing a new album on 19 April – The Tortured Poets Department – and sharing a photo of the album’s front cover on social media.

Accepting best pop vocal album, she said she’d been keeping the secret for the last two years.

The Grammys were the first big music event Swift has attended since falling victim to a deepfake attack on social media late last month, when fake, sexually explicit images of her were shared online.

Accepting the prize, Swift ushered her team around her saying, “Guys I feel so alone” before going on to thank everyone who made the album a success.

She said: “I would love to tell you this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song, or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love, or when I’m shortlisting a music video, or when I’m working with my dancers.

“For me the reward is the work… All I want to do is keep doing this, so thanks so much for giving me the opportunity. Mind blown!”

The award was presented to a visibly shocked Swift by Canadian superstar Celine Dion.

Dancing on Ice’s Ashley Banjo to be replaced by Olympic skater as ‘exit’ confirmed.

Ashley Banjo will be replaced on the Dancing on Ice panel next week, with an Olympic skating icon coming into replace the Diversity star, as he takes a lengthy hiatus from the show.

Having been on the panel since the ITV programme made its return in 2018, Ashley is back on screens for the new series, to sit alongside gold medallists Torvill and Dean and ex Strictly pro Oti Mabuse. However, after all the performances on Sunday night’s Dancing on Ice were done and dusted, presenter Holly Willoughby had some shock news for viewers at home, when she revealed that Ashley was taking some time off the show in order to fulfil tour commitments with Diversity.

The Britain’s Got Talent 2009 winners are set to play to audiences all over the country on their biggest tour yet, meaning that Ashley won’t just be missing in action for one week, but will be absent until the semi final, with that news delivered by Holly’s co-host Stephen Mulhern.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Giovanni Pernice delights fans with four-word message as they show support.

It comes as the dancer hasn’t joined his fellow pros from the BBC One dance contest as they tour the country with this year’s live tour.
Giovanni Pernice has been flooded with praise from his fans as he sent a four-word message amid his absence from his Strictly Come Dancing co-stars. The dancer hasn’t joined his fellow pros from the BBC One dance contest as they tour the country with this year’s Strictly live tour.

Instead, Giovanni is just weeks into his own headline tour which kicked off in mid-January. The 33-year-old started his Let Me Entertain You tour in Hayes at the Beck Theatre before he began travelling up and down the country, which will continue through until the end of April when the tour will end at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking.

And while it’s his own show, on his biggest tour to date, Giovanni’s not alone on stage as he’s joined by Strictly co-star and ‘leading lady’ Lauren Oakley as well as an ensemble of dancers.

With the tour now very much in full swing, Giovanni took to Instagram to share his first big update. Sharing a picture of himself with Lauren and the rest of his show’s cast on stage, the Italian star said: “Living my best life!!”

He then went on to say: “Have you come to watch the show? What do you think ?? Not spoilers please. The show is running until may so you can still grab your tickets at giovannipernice.com.”

It comes after Giovanni addressed what type of dance teacher he is as he was quizzed on what he’s really like behind the scenes. The dancer appeared on The One Show last month to chat about his new tour.

But during his appearance on the BBC One show, he was asked by hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keatin about his relationships with, and training of his celebrity partners, to which he said: “I’m definitely a perfectionist.”

He went on: “Like everybody else, I like to win. But for me it’s more about bringing the best out of partners, especially if I see that there is talent there. I want to do my job properly.”

Nikolai Foster directs the teen musical that follows Danny and Sandy through their senior year at Rydell High and Arlene Phillips choreographs the piece that WhatsOnStage hailed a “thunderously good evening out” during a previous run at the West End’s Dominion Theatre. Phillips also picked up a WhatsOnStage Award for Best Choreography in 2023.

Steps musical to open in Birmingham later this year.

 

A new musical featuring the tunes of beloved group Steps will have its world premiere this autumn.

Here and Now, which follows the workers and patrons of a seaside superstore (full of shocks, surprises and thrills), is due to open this November in Birmingham. Penned by Shaun Kitchener, it is produced by the band, theatre company ROYO and music mogul Pete Waterman.

Steps explained: “We’ve been lucky to do many things together as a band, but the question we get asked again and again is ‘where is the Steps musical?’ Well…it’s finally here and we couldn’t be more excited. We’ve searched for the perfect story for our music and we’ve found it in the aisle of a seaside superstore where four friends set out on their own Summer of Love.

“It’s a story of friendship, romance and community; packed with our biggest hits and sure to have everybody laughing, crying and dancing in the aisles. We can’t wait to open the doors this year, and see you there!”

Choreography will be by Matt Cole, set design by Tom Rogers, costume design by Gabriella Slade, sound design by Adam Fisher and casting by Will Burton for Grindrod Burton Casting.

The band, composed of Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins’, Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee, have number one singles including “Tragedy”/”Heartbeat” and “Stomp”, as well as the likes of “One For Sorrow”, “Better Best Forgotten”, “5,6,7,8”, “Last Thing On My Mind”, “Love’s Got A Hold Of My Heart” and “Chain Reaction”. All the aforementioned are set to appear in the show.

The production is set to open at Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre, running from 9 to 24 November 2024. Tickets go on sale 9 February 2024.

Bonnie Langford to join Pixie Lott and Killian Donnelly in Made in Dagenham concert.

Bonnie Langford is set to join the cast of the tenth anniversary concert of Made in Dagenham.

Langford, who recently starred in Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends at the Gielgud Theatre and will co-host the 24th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards next month, will play Barbara Castle, the role originated by Sophie-Louise Dann in the West End production, alongside previously announced Pixie Lott (as Rita O’Grady) and Killian Donnelly (as Eddie O’Grady).

Press Media caught up with the trio of performers during a special photoshoot to talk about the concert staging as well as the current status of the gender pay gap over five decades after the famous 1968 strike at the Dagenham Ford factory:

Based on a true story and adapted from the hit film, Made in Dagenham is penned by Richard Bean with music and lyrics by David Arnold and Richard Thomas. Set in 1960s Essex, it follows Rita, a mother leading her friends in a protest against Ford’s Dagenham car plant after it lowers female workers’ pay.

Produced by Scott Garnham and Simon Schofield for Sisco Entertainment and directed by Shaun Kerrison, Made in Dagenham will be staged in concert at The London Palladium on Saturday, 16 March 2024. Tickets are on sale below.

‘Pioneering leader in dance world’ Emma Gladstone dies at 63.

Emma danced for 20 years with choreographer and former Strictly Come Dancing judge Dame Arlene Phillips.

Emma Gladstone, a former artistic programmer at Sadler’s Wells and chief executive of dance festival Dance Umbrella, has been hailed as “a pioneering and highly respected leader in the dance world across the globe” after her death at 63.

She died at home on Monday after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family,

Gladstone was artistic programmer at Sadler’s Wells from 2005 to 2013, where she established the Jerwood Choreographic Research Programme, which aims to stimulate new thinking in choreography by enabling artists to think, dream and experiment freely.

Alistair Spalding, artistic director and co-chief executive of Sadler’s Wells, said: “I knew Emma in many of her guises – beautiful dancer, programmer, advocate, leader, producer and friend.

Emma Gladstone was made an OBE in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to dance.

Royal Ballet School splits leadership role after management review.

The Royal Ballet School is to separate the role of artistic director and chief executive following a review of its management structure.
It comes as the Royal Ballet School artistic director Christopher Powney prepares to leave after 10 years in the post – two of which combined the responsibilities of chief executive.

He will depart in July, with chair of governors and former Almeida Theatre chair Christopher Rodrigues acting as interim chief executive with immediate effect.

In a statement, Rodrigues said: “Christopher’s decision to leave has given us an opportunity to review our management structure at any important time in the school’s history.

“As we approach our centenary, the continued development of the school and the scope of our ambition clearly demonstrate to us that the positions of chief executive and artistic director should be two distinct roles within our organisation for the foreseeable future.”

Rodrigues said distinguishing the positions would “strengthen” the Royal Ballet School team and secure the school’s “artistic and financial future”, continuing: “This is a very exciting and challenging time for all boarding schools, the more so far for us because we are also developing young elite athletes.”

Powney is a former artistic director of the Dutch National Ballet Academy has danced with Northern Ballet, English National Ballet and Rambert Dance Company, and first joined the Royal Ballet School’s teaching staff in 2000.

After time spent working abroad, he returned to lead the school in 2014.

The search for his replacement as artistic director is yet to start.

It is directed and choreographed by Nick Winston with assistant choreographers Tommy Franzen, Ryan Lee Seager and Libby Watts.Yasmin Harrison is the Dance Captain.
• Tour dates have been revealed for the new Dolly Parton musical “Here You Come Again”. It will run in Leeds from the 11th of May until the 8th of June before touring.
• The complete cast and creative team have been revealed for the new musical “42 Balloons”. The choreography is by Alexzandra Sarmiento. The show will play at the Lowry in Salford from the 18th of April until the 19th of May.
• “Back To The Future” has extended its West End run until the 22nd of December.
• “Frozen” will finish in the West End on the 8th of September.
• Cesar Morales has been appointed as the next Artistic Director of the Santiago Ballet.
• Choreographer Emma Gladstone has passed away aged 63.

BBC Strictly’s Shirley Ballas supports ‘gentleman’ Giovanni Pernice amid Amanda Abbington ‘feud’.

 

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has addressed the reported feud between pro dancer Giovanni Pernice and his latest show partner Amanda Abbington.

The Head Judge on the BBC series threw support behind Giovanni, calling him a “gentlemen” and a “splendid teacher” as she was quizzed about an apparent falling out between the pairing. Amid reports actress Amanda was left “broken and saddened” by her time on the show, Shirley had her say on the reports.

Sherlock star Amanda left the BBC dance competition in week five due to “medical reasons” in October 2023. In recent weeks it was reported that she sought professional help due to the “behaviour she was exposed to” while part of the series.

The actress reportedly sought legal advice to obtain backstage footage of their rehearsals after being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following her exit from the show. Giovanni recently took to social media to thank fans and loved ones for their support amid a new venture away from the BBC show.

The BBC are supporting Giovanni after the claims, with the allegations deemed “excessive”. The BBC did respond to claims regarding Amanda and the request for footage, remarking that duty of care is taken “incredibly seriously”.

Now, Strictly judge and Giovanni’s co-star Shirley has addressed the matter, and she threw support behind the pro dancer. Speaking on Lorraine on Monday, host Lorraine said: “We had all this stuff about Giovanni and clearly, there were some problems with his partner last year.

“Of course it’s very well documented, there’s been an investigation. It’s fine, but the pros do want to win don’t they, and they want to get the best out of their partner?” Shirley replied: “I have known Giovanni for many, many years and he is an absolutely splendid teacher.

“My only ever experience with him is that of an absolute gentleman. He serves the show well and gives 100 percent, but you know…” Lorraine added: “Sometimes partnerships just don’t work, we see that everywhere, on TV, everywhere.”

Shirley then interjected: “But you know all these shows, Strictly, they’re tough shows. So when you sign up for a show like that you kinda know what you are getting into, it’s been on the screen for 20 odd years, it’s quite difficult to do the show.”

A source recently told The Press Media on the story: “The feeling is he is a tough taskmaster, but hasn’t bullied or abused anyone. The BBC see him as a key face of Strictly and will do all they can to support him.”

Strictly’s Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola signed up for This Morning by ITV.

Strictly Come Dancing champions Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola have been ‘snapped up’ by ITV for high profile roles on This Morning.

It’s now been close to a month since ex Coronation Street actress Ellie and 2022 finalist Vito won the Glitterball trophy, having gone into December’s Strictly final as the red hot favourites to win. After an unfortunate error with a lift in their Show Dance, Ellie and Vito actually finished bottom of the leaderboard on the night, but with the judges’ scores just a guide in the final, emerged victorious after topping the public vote.

The couple spent Christmas and New Year apart, as Ellie headed back to Manchester to celebrate with family and friends and Vito jetted back to Italy for the festive period but, they will now be spending a lot of time together, as they and many of the Strictly co-stars hit the road for the show’s annual live tour. The dates kick off in Birmingham in just over a week’s time, before wrapping up at London’s famous O2 Arena.

And, aside from that, ITV viewers will also be seeing a lot more of Ellie and Vito as, they announced on Wednesday’s This Morning, that they’d signed up to Be dance teachers to three couples who wanted to learn how to dance. Right at the start of their interview with hosts Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson, Ellie remarked: “I’m apparently, going to be turning into a teacher. We are going to give three couples some dancing lessons.”

She continued: “You know when couples go to an event, a wedding, a birthday and you’re always trying to get one of them up to dance. My mum always does it to my dad. We’re going to show them some moves,” as Vito added: “Everyone can dance.”

The Masked Singer’s Rat leaves panel ‘gobsmacked’ Strictly icon axed.

Rat caused quite a stir as they were voted off The Masked Singer on Saturday night, with none of the panel guessing that they were none other than Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas.

One of the most fun acts in the new series of the ITV show, Rat was back in action in this weekend’s third episode, performing an entertaining rendition of childhood favourite Nellie The Elephant, as regular stars Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan and guest star Olly Murs were very divided on who could be the celeb inside the eye-catching costume. Olly guessed at Kerry Katona, while Davina went for Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer and Jonathan eventually went for another Josie, Doctor Who and Time star Jodie Whittaker.

Strictly head judge Shirley’s name never once came into contention, so when the panel sent Rat packing from The Masked Singer, in favour of Dippy Egg, there were gasps as the mask came off to reveal the dance champion underneath. Every one of them looked in total shock as they saw Shirley standing in front of them, with her quickly out on the spot about how some of the clues linked her to Rat.

She explained that the clue about being in ‘danger’ was about her climbing Kilimanjaro, while the appearance of a tattoo gun in Rat’s second VT was in reference to her having a number of hidden tattoos on her bottom. Just like the panel, plenty of viewers at home were blown away by Rat being Shirley, despite Rat’s very obvious Scouse accent being a clear nod to Shirley’s Merseyside roots.

Talking about managing to evade detection from the panel and what she thought of their guesses, Shirley said: “I thought the guesses from the panel were actually rather spectacular. They compared me to actors and singers, all sorts, and never got any of the clues! I was very surprised about Jonathan. I mean, Jonathan’s a friend of mine.

Shucked musical to be adapted into a film.

The Broadway hit Shucked will be adapted for the big screen.

Announced on stage during the show’s final performance in New York, the comedy will be made into a film by Mandalay Pictures, who have worked on the likes of Air, The Voices and Enemy at the Gates.

With a book by 2023 Tony Award nominee and Tony Award winner Robert Horn (who will now pen the screenplay), music and lyrics by 2023 Tony Award nominees and Drama Desk Award winners Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, and direction by 2023 Tony Award nominee and three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, the piece opened on Broadway last March. It will be hosted at a Cameron Mackintosh venue in London in the next year or so, according to reports in 2023.

Set in a rural community isolated from the world by a wall of economy-driving corn stalks, Shucked follows what happens when the crop begins to fail, and a young woman leaves behind Cob County to try and find someone who can save her town. The show has received rave reviews in New York, being described by our sibling site as “a shucking good time.”

• The Royal Ballet has announced details about its forthcoming festival of New Choreography, opening in February.
• The “Burlesque” stage musical announced new dates plus a Glasgow run. It will open at the Glasgow Theatre Royal from the 11th until the 28th of September and then play at the Manchester Opera House from the 3rd of October until the 2nd of November. It is then planning to transfer to the West End. The show is directed and choreographed by Nick Winston.

• Casting for the UK premiere of “Bhangra Nation” has been announced. It will star Zaynah Ahmed and Gregory Armand. The choreography is by Rujuta Vaidya and Rebecca Howell. The show will run at the Birmingham Rep from the 17th of February to the 16th of March 2024.
• The European premiere of “Your Lie in April” will take place at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on the 8th & 9th of April 2024. It will be directed and choreographed by Nick Winston. The casting director is Harry Blumenau.
• Nick Winston will be directing the world premiere of the new musical “Wild About You” at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on the 25th & 26th of March 2024. It will star Eric McCormack.
• “The Wizard of Oz” has confirmed the full cast for its tour of the UK and Ireland. The choreography is by Shay Barclay. The show will open in Liverpool on the 13th of December 2024.
• “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” has confirmed the initial casting for its 2024 West End transfer. It has choreography by Lynne Page and will run at the Gillian Lynne theatre from the 8th of February 2024.
• Nick Winston and Ryan Lee Seager will be directing and choreographing the world premiere of “Burlesque The Musical” – which has Christina Aguilera as an Executive Director. The show will open at the Manchester Opera House on the 13th of June 2024.
• “Clueless The Musical” will have a developmental run at the Churchill theatre in Bromley from the 12th – 24th of February 2024.
• “Mean Girls” is coming to the Savoy Theatre in June 2024.
• A touring musical version of “101 Dalmations” will open in Wimbledon on the 22nd of June 2024.
• “& Juliet” will embark on a UK tour from the 8th of July 2024. The choreographer is Jennifer Weber.
• “The Devil Wears Prada” has confirmed its West End run and UK premiere. It will be directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell and be cast by Jill Green. The show will open in Plymouth on the 9th of July 2024.
• “Bonnie and Clyde The Musical” has announced the initial cast and tour dates for 2024. Katie Tonkinson will star as Bonnie Parker.
• “Starlight Express” is to return to London in the Summer of 2024. It will be choreographed by Ashley Nottingham.
• The world premiere of the new British musical “Cable Street” is to open at the Southwark Playhouse on the 16th of February 2024. The choreography is by Melody Sinclair.
• “Some Like It Hot” is coming to the West End in 2025. It will be directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw.
• Full casting has been revealed for the first UK and Ireland tour of “Aladdin”. Gavin Adams will star with Desmonda Cathabel as Jasmine. Sarah Benbelaid is the Assistant Dance Captain. The show will open in Edinburgh in October.
• The 2024 Mighty Hoopla Big Weekender has announced its line up led by: Natalie Imbruglia, Cascada and Gabrielle.
• “Shucked” will open in the West End in 2024. The choreographer is Sarah O’Gleby.
• “Come From Away” announced a UK and Ireland tour beginning in Leicester on the 1st of March 2024. The production is being cast by Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher. The choreography is by Tara Wilkinson and Kirsty Malpas with Richard Hinds. The Dance Captain is Angeline Bell.
• “Hadestown” will open at the Lyric Theatre in the West End on the 10th of February 2024. The choreographer is David Neumann.
• The new musical “Starter for Ten” will premiere in Bristol next year at the Old Vic theatre from the 29th of February until the 30th of March 2024.
• “The King And I” will return to the West End in early 2024 starring Helen George and Darren Lee.
• “Sister Act – The Musical” will return to the Dominion theatre in the West End on the 15th of March 2024. It will star Beverley Knight and Alexandra Burke. The choreography is by Alistair David.
• The lead cast has been unveiled for “We Will Rock You” opening in the West End. It will star Lee Mead and Brenda Edwards.
• “Jesus Christ Superstar” will tour the UK in 2023/4 opening in Manchester this September. The choreography is by Drew McOnie.
