Professional dancer Karen Hauer has “broken cover” for the first time since announcing her departure from Strictly Come Dancing after 14 years. The 43-year-old was spotted attending a wellness retreat for dogs and their owners, the LitPet Sunday Dog Social, held at 180 House on London’s Strand.

Trainspotting: The musical heading for London’s West End this summer.

The world premiere of Trainspotting: The Musical is officially arriving at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket this summer, with performances starting on 15 July 2026.
Adapted by original author Irvine Welsh, this production is a full-scale musical that aims to be “bigger” and have a “louder beating human heart” than previous stage plays. Tickets went on sale starting 24 March 2026 at 8 am.

• Casting has been announced for the open air production of “Cats” opening this summer at Regent’s Park. The show has choreography by Drew McOnie and the dance captains are Carla Bertran and Taela Yeomans-Brown. It will run from the 25th of July until the 12th of September.
• “The Karate Kid – The Musical” announced that it will star Gina Ochello and Abigail Amin. The show has choreography by Keone and Mari Madrid and will open in Wimbledon on the 28th of April.
• The upcoming production of “High School Musical” will star Tobias Turley as Troy and Leonor Correia as Gabriella, with Caitlin Tipping as Sharpay. The choreography is by Aaron Renfree and the show will run at the Lowry in Salford from the 21st of August until the 19th of September.
• “Jesus Christ Superstar” will run at the London Palladium from the 20th of June until the 5th of September. The show will star Sam Ryder and Desmonda Cathebel and have choreography by Drew McOnie.
• New York City Centre has announced that its 2026 gala production will be “In The Heights”. The show will run from the 28th of October until the 8th of November.

Dance Consortium Brings Michael Keegan-Dolan’s Acclaimed ‘MÁM’ on Debut UK Tour.

   

Dance Consortium is making history with its latest tour, marking two significant firsts: the organisation’s inaugural presentation of an Irish company and the long-awaited UK debut of Michael Keegan-Dolan’s Olivier Award-nominated masterpiece MÁM, performed by Teaċ Daṁsa.

This nine-venue tour runs from 3 February to 4 March 2026, opening at The Lowry in Salford Quays and visiting major theatres across the UK, including Birmingham Hippodrome, Brighton Dome, and Mayflower Theatre Southampton.

MÁM, which premiered to sell-out crowds at Sadler’s Wells in 2020, represents a deeply personal milestone for Keegan-Dolan. It is the first work fully conceived and created after he relocated his company Teaċ Daṁsa to West Kerry in 2019, drawing profound inspiration from the region’s native language, rugged landscape, musical traditions, and community.

Legally Blonde musical tour sets full cast joining Amber Davies.

The much-loved musical, which follows a misjudged young woman who overcomes social expectations and becomes a successful Harvard Law School graduate, is heading out on a new tour this year.

With music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and a book by Heather Hach, the musical is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture of the same name.

It was first seen on Broadway in 2007, with a West End production opening in 2010, where it won three Olivier Awards.

Curve artistic director Nikolai Foster will direct the new production, produced by Curve and ROYO, who also collaborated on the tour of Kinky Boots set to arrive in the West End. Legally Blonde will open at the Leicester venue in 2026 and tour across the UK into 2027.

As already revealed, Amber Davies will lead the company as Elle. Joining her will be Hannah Lowther as Margot and the alternate Elle Woods. Lowther and Davies will star alongside George Crawford as Emmett, Karen Mavundukure as Paulette, Adam Cooper as Callahan, Jamie Chatterton as Warner, Annabelle Terry as Vivienne, Jocasta Almgill as Brooke, Rosanna Harris as Serena and Remi Ferdinand as Pilar. Ty-Reece Stewart will play Kyle and Bradley Delarosbel will play Carlos.

The cast is completed by Keanna Bloomfield, James Lim, Aaron Shales, Jaime Tait, Daisy Twells, Louie Wood, Raiaz Fisher, Dylan Gordon-Jones, Lauren Hampton and Ollie Hart-Bradford.

Joining Foster on the creative team are choreographer Leah Hill, musical supervisor and additional arrangements Matt Spencer-Smith, set designer Colin Richmond, costume designer Tom Rogers, wigs, hair and make-up designer Sam Cox, lighting designer Ben Cracknell and sound designer Adam Fisher.

Strictly Come Dancing announces two new Professional Dancers.

The BBC has announced the two brand-new Professional Dancers who will be joining Strictly Come Dancing when the hit series, made by BBC Studios Entertainment, returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this autumn.

American-born Alexis Warr is best known for winning US dance series So You Think You Can Dance in 2022 and was crowned as ‘America’s Favourite Dancer’, becoming the first female Ballroom and Latin dancer to claim the title. She has performed as a guest Professional Dancer and in the dance troupe on the US version of Strictly, Dancing With The Stars, and has been part of the series’ accompanying US tour for the past three years. Alexis has also danced on America’s Got Talent, World of Dance, and on national tours across the States – including three with Dancing With The Stars judge Derek Hough, in addition to his Las Vegas residency.

Australian-born Julian Caillon has been dancing since the age of 10, specialising in Ballroom and Latin American, and going on to represent Australia on the international stage. He appeared as a Professional Dancer on three seasons of Australia’s Dancing With The Stars, has toured the globe with hit dance show Burn The Floor, and also competed on So You Think You Can Dance in Australia. Julian has a degree in Exercise Physiology from UNSW Sydney and, alongside his dance career, has worked as a Personal Trainer and Exercise Physiologist. Julian is a keen athlete, and 2025 has so far seen him complete two triathlons.

Both Alexis and Julian have also previously danced at the World-famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom, where Strictly will return later this series for its much-anticipated Blackpool special.

On joining Strictly Come Dancing, Alexis Warr says: “I’ve admired Strictly for years, so joining this incredible family is such an honour. I can’t wait to step into the ballroom, pour my heart into every moment, and share my love of dance with the UK.”

Julian Caillon says: “Joining the cast of Strictly really is a dream come true. I’ve watched it for years, especially cheering on all the amazing dancers I know and work with who’ve been part of it. I can’t wait to get stuck in, have some fun, and be part of something special! “

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge Shirley Ballas all return to the judging panel, with recent MBE recipients Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman back on hosting duties.

Strictly legends returning to Glasgow with hit dance show in September.

   

Following the success of the Legends of the Dance Floor last year, Vincent Simone, Pasha Kovalev, James Jordan, Ian Waite and Brendan Cole are reuniting for a new tour that’s twice as big for 2025, with the 35-dates including a show a Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on 9th September.

And no one could be more pleased than the happy hoofers themselves.

Says Vincent Simone: “We knew we had a hit on our hands last year when most of the tickets for the tour were sold within 48 hours. That’s why we’re doing double the dates this time round.”

So, how does he explain this success? “I think some of it has to do with when the five of us were on Strictly. The show is still hugely popular but in its first 10 years or so, it was getting TV audiences of around 15 million. We were the first: for instance, I danced the first Argentine tango on British television, a truly emotional moment.”

But it’s not just that. “In a two-hour show in the theatre, we can demonstrate so much more variety. We bring dances from around the world: the tango from Argentina, the rumba from Cuba, the samba from Brazil, the Viennese waltz and so on.”

And then there’s the humour. “Audiences love to hear the stories behind Strictly and they really seem to enjoy the banter between us. We’re five big characters with five big egos and we all tease each other. It’s so nice to be working with such good friends.”

He’s 46 now; this is going to be a demanding tour. How’s his stamina? “I’m sure I’ll feel some aches and pains during the first few days of rehearsal. But I’ve been dancing since I was a child – it’s my passion – so a combination of muscle memory and experience will see me through. I can’t wait!”

Pasha Kovalev is also raring to go. He believes that last year’s tour went down so well because five popular professional dancers had never toured together in one show.

“It was such fun – for the audience but also for us. If I wasn’t performing, I’d watch the others from the wings and I was blown away not only by the standard on stage but by the laughs, too.”

It’s more than that. “Because it’s a live show, no two performances are ever the same. And that’s what keeps it so fresh. There’s a lot of energy from the dancers but then there’s a huge amount from the auditorium. We all feed off each other.

‘I particularly enjoyed the opening number of the second act when we were all dressed as cowboys in a Wild West saloon. And I loved the dance-off with James Jordan with me as Patrick Swayze and him as John Travolta.”

Pasha, 45, was paired with Countdown maths whizz Rachel Riley in 2013’s Strictly. They fell in love and married six years later. Will she be bringing daughters Maven, five, and three-year-old Noa to see daddy dance on the 2025 Legends tour? “Of course,” he says.

“Last year, Ola brought Ella, her daughter with James Jordan, to see the show in St Alban’s and Rachel came along to the same matinee performance with our two. It was so incredible to look out into the audience and see them there. Something I’ll never forget.”

James Jordan never doubted the 2024 Legends tour would be a great success. “I just thought the nostalgia attached to five older guys, famous from Strictly, on the same stage at the same time, couldn’t miss. Even so, I didn’t think it was going to sell out quite so quickly.

“Most of us left Strictly over 10 years ago and yet, people wanted to come and watch us old boys doing our stuff. We’re all either knocking on the door of 50 or past it. Amazing. The reaction exceeded all our expectations.

“And, of course, we could indulge in a level of banter not possible on TV. In the woke world in which we all live now, it’s genuinely refreshing to go to a show and have a good laugh, sometimes at each other’s expense. We’re all at an age now when we don’t care what we say although it’s still child-friendly family entertainment.”

At 47, he thinks he’s mentally and physically better prepared this time round. “For rehearsals last year, I had to take in four t-shirts every day because I was sweating so much. There were occasions when I thought I was going to pass out.

“Unlike the other four, I hadn’t toured for a long time. But now, I’ve got a real thirst to get back on the road especially as there seems to be such an appetite for it. I hadn’t appeared before a live audience for some years until the first Legends tour. I must admit, the reaction made me quite emotional.”

Veteran dancer Ian Waite agrees. “What amazed me,” he says, “was that, some 20 years after we all started on Strictly, give or take, we can still fill a theatre and very often with exactly the same audience that enjoyed us on TV in the noughties.”

This time round, the Legends will be visiting many venues that weren’t on the 2024 tour. “We’ll be performing a number of new routines under Scott Coldwell’s excellent choreography along with some of the most popular dances from last year. But it’s going to feel like a whole new show.” His personal highlight? “A classic Viennese waltz, such a beautiful dance.”

How’s his level of fitness? “Well, the three weeks of rehearsal from nine in the morning until six at night will be crucial. But I’ve recently done another three months of Dancing With The Stars in Australia. My partner and I won it last year, two decades after I first appeared on Strictly. I never dreamt I’d still be performing as a pro dancer at 54.”

He’s currently on tour with his fitness brand, Fitsteps, dreamt up with former Strictly professional Natalie Lowe in 2013. “We’ve developed it as a way for people to learn the dance styles they love from Strictly, in a fun fitness class. So, put it this way: I’m going to be pretty much match-fit for the Legends 2025 tour.”

At 49, Brendan Cole is no stranger to touring. “As an artist, there’s nothing I like better than performing in front of a live audience. I think I was born to be on a stage. But would people want to come and see five old fellers from Strictly with five gorgeous girls in the same show?”

The answer, of course, was yes. “We were quite overwhelmed by the reaction. But then, I think we created a bit of magic together and part of that was down to the obvious camaraderie on-stage.” His favourite moment? “The rumba, such an intense experience, so full of raw emotion. And I loved the tribute from all of us to the late Robin Windsor.”

Another bonus for the pro dancers is the crowd waiting outside each stage door. “I’m old school. If someone can take the time to ask for a selfie or an autograph, I’m happy to oblige. We couldn’t do what we get to do if there was no audience.”

So, no doubting, then, the commitment to this new tour from all five Legends. At this rate, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be embarking on a third tour in 2026 – and every year afterwards. “Absolutely,” laughs Ian Waite. “We’ll carry on for as long as we enjoy it as much as UK audiences seem to.”

Adds James Jordan: “And how nice, in these sometimes difficult times, to offer people two hours of unashamed, unabashed escapism.”

MJ the Musical announces final West End extension.

MJ the Musical will extend its run at the Prince Edward Theatre in London one final time.

The musical, which features more than 25 Michael Jackson hits, won the WhatsOnStage and Olivier Awards for Best Choreography and was nominated for Best New Musical at both ceremonies.

Jamaal Fields-Green continues in the title role, joined by Matt Mills, Mitchell Zhangazha, Philippa Stefani, KoKo Alexandra, Joshua C Jackson, Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton, Matt Gonsalves, Michael Conley, Kieran Alleyne, Johnny Bishop and André Phipps.

Arlene Phillips joins celebration for Pineapple Dance Studios founder.

Westminster’s latest People’s Plaque has honoured the work of Pineapple Dance Studios founder Debbie Moore, with choreographer Arlene Phillips helping to lead its unveiling ceremony.

The Olivier award-winning Phillips and singer and actor Bonnie Langford were the first to uncover the plaque to a crowd of well-wishers outside the world-famous home for dance, located in Covent Garden.

Organised by the Seven Dials Trust, the plaque now stands outside the entrance to the studio on London’s Langley Street, and becomes one of the city’s markers commemorating individuals and institutions who have contributed to London and further afield.

Wicked to be added to Amazon Prime Video.

Part one of the Jon M Chu-directed screen adaptation starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande set box office records over its opening weekend.

Based on the hit novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, Wicked tells the story of two unlikely university friends in the land of Oz, one destined to become Glinda the Good and the other, the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked writers Winnie Holzman (book) and Stephen Schwartz (score) collaborated on the screenplay with Dana Fox.

Erivo and Grande were both nominated for Academy Awards for their performances as Elphaba and Glinda, while the film was nominated for Best Picture. It picked up two Academy Awards at the 2025 ceremony in the following categories: Best Costume Design (for Paul Tazewell) and Production Design (for Nathan Crowley).

The film will be added to the streaming service worldwide on 25 July 2025.

Looking ahead, Wicked: For Good will be released on 21 November 2025.

Welsh dance sector in ‘urgent’ need of investment.

   

Dance in Wales is in urgent need of “reimagining, rebuilding and reinvestment”, according to a review of the sector.

The results of the long-awaited analysis of the country’s dance provisions have now been published by the Arts Council of Wales, which has also revealed a plan of action to tackle funding inequities and infrastructure gaps.

As well as an additional £350,000 for dance development, the funding body has promised innovations, including a group of dance experts to advise artistic directors about programming at significant venues.

Drawing on conversations with dance artists, companies, educators and audiences, the Wales Dance Review highlights areas of the country that are “critically” behind in terms of access to the art form, as well as particular difficulties for the community dance sector.

Funding is concentrated in South East Wales, according to the report, which warns that opportunities are limited in other regions as a result.

Rural areas such as Pembrokeshire and Powys are facing particularly acute challenges”, it adds.

The review further claims that scarcity and uneven distribution of resources have led to a competitive atmosphere and a “protectionist” working environment.

New Dorian Gray musical in development – with first track released.

Funding for 10 dance centres across England has been confirmed for another year, following campaigning by the likes of Alistair Spalding and Matthew Bourne.

The National Centres for Advanced Training in Dance, present in cities including Birmingham, Newcastle, and Nottingham, will receive core funding to cover student bursaries for another 12 months.

The funding had been championed ahead of the government’s spending review by top choreographers and dance sector leaders.

Figures including Arlene Phillips and Anthony Van Laast had previously called upon the Department for Education to safeguard funding, after a £300,000 grant for outreach work was cut in December 2024.

There were fears the 10 National Dance CATs were at risk following the cut. While the outreach funding has not be reinstated, the core funding means student bursaries can be offered for 2025/26.

The National Dance CATS, as the scheme is also known, celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.

It trains approximately 900 students each year, with 68% of those training in the 2023/24 academic year receiving bursaries.

But despite relief that funding for student bursaries would continue for 2025/26, concerns persist about the future of the dance centres, without a guarantee of its long-term future.

The pre-vocational training is available for dancers aged 10-18 and is offered alongside mainstream education.

Bourne had called the national network of dance centres “the envy of international dance companies around the globe”, and said that without support for its work we faced “a world in which there can be no more Billy – or Betty – Elliots”.

Spalding, artistic director and chief executive of Sadler’s Wells, previously said: “The small investment required to fund this programme annually has a substantial impact in terms of the opportunities it provides to young people and the economic return.

“The future artistic director of Sadler’s Wells is very likely among the current cohort.”

Alumni from the scheme have gone on to perform with high-profile professional dance companies including Akram Khan Dance Company, Northern Ballet, and Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.

• The tour cast of “Fiddler on the Roof” has been announced. The show will have choreography by Julia Cheng and will star Jodie Jacobs. The tour will begin on the 24th of July in Bromley.
• STOP PRESS – Hope Mill Theatre is set to stage a production of “High School Musical”. It will run at the Lowry in Salford from the 21st of August until the 13th of September 2026.

Strictly co-host Tess Daly made MBE for services to broadcasting.

TV presenter Tess Daly shed tears when she opened the letter telling her she was to be made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to broadcasting.

The 56-year-old has been recognised, with her Strictly Come Dancing co-host Claudia Winkleman also becoming an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.

She told the Media: “This genuinely came as the greatest surprise of my life. I don’t think I’ve come back down to earth yet, I didn’t see it coming, and it almost didn’t happen, because the letter went to the wrong address.

“And thank goodness, someone very kind found me. And so by the time I got it, I only had, I think it was two or three days left to accept it. There’s a deadline of acceptance. I can’t imagine not ever wanting to accept such a wonderful award. But of course I did.

“But yes, it was cutting it fine, because it went to the wrong address first of all, but it ended well.”

BBC Strictly Come Dancing ‘signs up’ Gladiators star.

   

Gladiators’ Nitro, also known as Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, is set to join the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing. The 36-year-old has previously graced the BBC show’s dance floor.

In the 2024 Christmas special, he partnered with professional dancer Nancy Xu, 33, and their performance earned them one of the highest scores of the night—an impressive 37 points for their Street/Commercial routine.

The former Olympic sprinter caught the attention of the show’s bosses, who are keen to have him on board for a full season of the popular dance competition, now in its 23rd year. It’s hoped that he can juggle his commitments with Gladiators, which typically films over the summer months.

Strictly usually kicks off in August, but contestants are confirmed weeks prior and start training immediately to build their confidence before the live shows commence.

Dance centres backed by Matthew Bourne have funding confirmed for another year.

Funding for 10 dance centres across England has been confirmed for another year, following campaigning by the likes of Alistair Spalding and Matthew Bourne.

The National Centres for Advanced Training in Dance, present in cities including Birmingham, Newcastle, and Nottingham, will receive core funding to cover student bursaries for another 12 months.

The funding had been championed ahead of the government’s spending review by top choreographers and dance sector leaders.

Figures including Arlene Phillips and Anthony Van Laast had previously called upon the Department for Education to safeguard funding, after a £300,000 grant for outreach work was cut in December 2024.

There were fears the 10 National Dance CATs were at risk following the cut. While the outreach funding has not be reinstated, the core funding means student bursaries can be offered for 2025/26.

The National Dance CATS, as the scheme is also known, celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.

It trains approximately 900 students each year, with 68% of those training in the 2023/24 academic year receiving bursaries.

But despite relief that funding for student bursaries would continue for 2025/26, concerns persist about the future of the dance centres, without a guarantee of its long-term future.

The pre-vocational training is available for dancers aged 10-18 and is offered alongside mainstream education.

Bourne had called the national network of dance centres “the envy of international dance companies around the globe”, and said that without support for its work we faced “a world in which there can be no more Billy – or Betty – Elliots”.

Spalding, artistic director and chief executive of Sadler’s Wells, previously said: “The small investment required to fund this programme annually has a substantial impact in terms of the opportunities it provides to young people and the economic return.

“The future artistic director of Sadler’s Wells is very likely among the current cohort.”

Alumni from the scheme have gone on to perform with high-profile professional dance companies including Akram Khan Dance Company, Northern Ballet, and Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.

• Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has announced a “Dance Takeover” for the 20th of July. The day will include pro workshops with the Rambert, Ballet Black, McOnie Company, Deaf Men Dancing, London City Ballet, Arthur Pita and Boy Blue.
• The Greenwich & Docklands International Festival will return this summer from the 22nd of August until the 6th of September, marking its 30th anniversary with a programme of free outdoor theatre, circus and dance.
• West End Live will take place this year on the 21st and 22nd of June at Trafalgar Square in London.

• Casting has been announced for the upcoming musical “Footballers’ Wives”. It will star Ceili O’ Connor and Tom Bowen. The show has choreography by Arlene Phillips and Richard Roe and will play at the Edinburgh Fringe from the 30th of July until the 24th of August.
• “Britain’s Got Talent” winner Sydnie Christmas is set to appear in the London transfer of “101 Dalmations The Musical”. The show has choreography by Lucy Hind and will open at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith on the 18th of July.
• “Burlesque” has revealed the full cast for its West End transfer. It has choreography by Todrick Hall and Jenni Thomasson, with Aaron Renfree as resident choreographer. India Thornton is the dance captain. The show will open at the Savoy Theatre on the 10th of July.
• Strictly winner Ore Oduba will take on the role of Dr Frankenstein in “Frankenstein The Musical” with Rhiannon Chesterton starring as Elizabeth Benning. The show will be directed and have choreography by Nick Winston and open at the Hope Mill theatre in Manchester on the 10th of October.

Birmingham Royal Ballet names new chief executive.

Paul James has been named chief executive of Birmingham Royal Ballet. He replaces Caroline Miller, who died last year.

James has been acting chief executive since December last year and was previously the company’s chief commercial officer. He will work alongside BRB director Carlos Acosta.

Birmingham Royal Ballet chair David Normington said: “I am absolutely delighted with the appointment of Paul James as chief executive. I know he combines a passion for our mission to take great ballet everywhere, with the leadership and management skills to help us meet financial and other challenges that lie ahead.”

He added: “He and Carlos Acosta will be a great team and I am looking forward to working with them both to bring exciting and ambitious programming to the widest possible audiences.”

Acosta said he was “deeply grateful” to James for his “steadfast commitment in stabilising the company following the untimely death of our much-missed CEO Caroline Miller”.

“Paul’s contribution over the past seven years has been instrumental in laying the strong foundations we have already achieved as a company, and I welcome with enthusiasm the opportunity to build on these with Paul to achieve even greater things for the company in the future,” he said.

James described it as an “honour to be asked to stand alongside Carlos Acosta and lead this extraordinary company forward”.
“These are not easy days for the arts and cultural sector, but I know just what the team here can do, and together we will continue to transform the business of ballet,” he said.

Stereophonic starts performances in the West End.

   

David Adjmi’s Tony-winning Broadway drama Stereophonic has arrived at the Duke of York’s Theatre.

Set in a music studio in California, the drama follows a Fleetwood Mac-style rock band as they record their latest album, with romantic foibles and professional tensions leading the group to the brink of breaking up, right as they’re about to blow up. The three-act, three-hour drama features songs by Will Butler of Arcade Fire.

Making up the West End company are three of the show’s longtime cast members: Eli Gelb as Grover, Andrew R Butler as Charlie, and Chris Stack as Simon. They are joined by newcomers Zachary Hart as Reg, Lucy Karczewski as Diana, Jack Riddiford as Peter and Nia Towle as Holly.

Stereophonic’s understudies are Sam Denia, Rima Georges, Lucy Gray and Steve Shirley.

The West End production of Stereophonic will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Seaview, Linden Productions and Ashley Melone and Nick Mills.

The show is currently booking until 11 October 2025.

After making its world premiere at Playwrights Horizons in 2023, Stereophonic made history by earning 13 Tony Award nominations in June 2024, the most of any play ever.

It went on to win five Tonys, including Best Play, Best Director (Aukin), Best Featured Actor (Will Brill), Best Scenic Design (David Zinn) and Best Sound Design (Ryan Rumery).
