To reflect the ongoing pandemic, the team at Dincwear Dancewear have started a new category in this week “Pro Dancer News” for Online Dance Classes – featuring the world’s best dancers and choreographers.

General Sightings

• Rachel Baker will be choreographing the film version of the new musical “In Pieces” by Joey Contreras. The film is due to be released on the 23rd of April.
• Akram Khan announced an Artist Development Programme to “provide support and mentoring to three UK based dance artists“. Each artist will receive a financial subsidy of £6,000. Applications have to be received by the 15th March.
• Northern Ballet announced that it had received £600,000 from the Weston Culture Fund to create and capture two ballets.
• Award-winning choreographer Bob Avian has died aged 83.

Future Dance News

• The Chantry Dance Company presents its “Space Oddity” – playing on the Guildhall & Stamford Arts Centre Facebook and YouTube channels from Saturday the 6th of February.

Online Dance Classes

• Ashley Shaw, the Principle dancer with Sir Matt Bourne’s New Adventures Company, will be giving a class on Wednesday the 3rd of February at 12.00. This will be available on the New Adventures Webpage.
• The “Move It Shake It” Online Convention will take place on February the 15th from 8.30 – 5.00.
• Karen Hauer, star of BBC1’s “Strictly”, launched her online 4 week Salsa Styling class.
• The Loft Studios in Coventry has a special online class with choreographers Adam Scott & Hamilton Evans (from the Millenium Dance Studios in the USA) on Saturday the 13th February at 6.00. Contact: Karl Herbert at the Loft Studios for details.

Film & Videos

• Disney is to film a new musical set in Ireland and they are looking for professional dancers to take part. Applicants can email belinda.murphy@disneympp.com with a dance CV, a headshot, a dance reel, location, phone number and email address.
• Birmingham Royal Ballet will be releasing a film of its “The Nutcracker” at the REP. The cast is led by Laura Day dancing the role of Clara.
• “Little Grasses Crack Through Stone” by Anjuli Mehra will be shown on the Sadlers Wells Facebook page on Wednesday the 3rd February at 12.00. This short film stars: Cordelia Braithwaite, Estela Merlos and Charlotte Alexander.
• We spotted Jazz Peters dancing in the new video for Joe McElderry’s: “Baby Had Your Fun“.
